Slightly OT, but I always heard that attributed to Duke Ellington, sort of shortened from "If it sounds good and feels good, it is good".

I either bring the big board, or I bring just one or two pedals and run them off of a one-spot, no board.

Although I have set up a smaller board, I was in between setups on the big board, freeing up a number of pedals and in a gig where it made sense to bring 7 pedals.

When I had three bands, I had three boards. Large - Medium - Small

I run two boards. One small, a Pedaltrain Mini with just the essentials. Tuner, filter, octave, fuzz, and chorus.

Then I run a bigger board, a Pedaltrain Jr. with all that plus a synth, different fuzz, a looper, and a ParaDriver.

I usually take the Jr to most gigs. I take the mini when I know I don't have enough room or I've never played there and think there is a chance I won't have enough room.

I couldn't give a crap if its intimidating. I'd use my PT Pro for all gigs if I felt like carrying it.

I'd call ya a genius if you had spelled it right, lol. This is the most innovative idea and economical idea yet presented IMHO. I am having a GAS attack for a large FYT pedalboard with a flight case. But, it doesn't exist if it doesn't have a picture, right?

i disassembled my big board into several setups for different projects. it also gives you a reason to have GAS for other pedals because you basically have a pedalboard per band

1 board for everything...bass & guitar. I've found what works for one works for the other as my needs go.

I use one board for bass and guitar (I play guitar in one band and bass in another). I used to have two distinct boards but they eventually became one in an organic fashion. i.e. i just realized what sounded good in my bass rig sounds good in my guitar rig. also... moneys tight

the board is constantly in flux though

my thing is i try to keep it simple and classy and try to find pedals that do double duty and that have controls that can be easily tweaked with a good pair of sneakers, so as not to have a bunch of expression pedals strewn about.

at the moment im running:

zvex wooly mamouth (for when you need crazy feedback fuzz or crazy gated fuzz)> fairfield circuitry randys revenge ring mod (which also functions as a boost, a low pass filter, and a really beautiful tremolo or vibe pedal. it has also replaced my need for an octave pedal... i hope... yet to test it live in that application.) > DBA fuzz war with the internal gain knob set to be a creamy dynamic fuzz (also works well as a mid boost if you keep the level low) > EAR ad4096 which is a really lush analog delay that has an awesome feedback loop button and a very musical and dynamic infinite feedback mode > into the obligatory boss tu3

i usually pull out the fuzz war when i'm running guitar and use the added room to put my 70's mutton phasor at the end of the chain as i can get a nice creamy fuzz by pushing my dano twin twelve with the randys revenge as a boost or riding the volume knob. sometimes i will also stick my trusty shin-ie "siren surf tornado wah volume" next to my board because not only is it a volume pedal but it also has some silly white noise generator in it that can produce the sound of crashing waves or howling winds. not to mention the fact that it has a siren button that just triggers an air raid siren sound that slowly ramps up in pitch until you hit it again at which points it slowly ramps back down... and who doesn't want to be able to do that?!?!
I digress...

this setup allows me to get a great variety of tones as well as create soundscapes and all out chaotic noise. while not being that guy with too many pedals who needs the extra extension chord and the extra room. what more can you ask for?

and it's all housed in my patented old briefcase from the sixties with some 2X4's sloppily bolted into it and covered in velcro! complete with lots of crevices to lose pics in!

i don't find I intimidate anybody with the board. added bonus to having a funky sixties briefcase as a pedal board is that it can just stay closed and look like a briefcase if need be. albiet a briefcase with a rather conspicuous plug for a power cable jutting out the side

I always bring my entire board and it has intimidated before but has never lost me a gig (as stated before I learned the "it doesn't have to be on at 10 all the time" lesson in my early 20's. Now in my mid 20's (26) I actually use more effects than before but A LOT more tastefully....

(see profile to see what I bring:it's a lot but it all has a purpose)

and I want to see literal pedalboard juggling!

I've done the whole PT-2 full to the brim with pedals and while it's great to have all the sounds at your feet, I came to the realisation I wasn't using all the pedals I was taking out with me, so what was the point?

I've ended up scaling down to just 2 PT Nano boards. The first contains just the bare essentials (Sadowsky Pre-amp/DI, Korg DT-10, Aguilar TLC and Darkglass B3K) and comes with me to every gig. The second contains my next most used group of effects (Aguilar Octamizer, IE Oxide, Fuzzrocious Grey Stache, Aguilar Filter Twin, SFX Micro Thumpinator) and is only used when I need it. It plugs on to the daisy chain of the first board, so no additional power is required.

ps, the picture was taken after I'd just wired it up quickly as a test, it's all a lot neater and the pedals are actually straight
