without ever even trying one. thats a first. ive heard countless samples, heard nothing but praise here on TB, so i went ahead and ordered one.

are the presets out of the box decent? im going to be hitting the studio a week or so after im expecting it to arrive here. wanna have the best possible results and ill most likely use it for the recordings (assuming that it lives up to its reputation.)

well, there are plenty sound options in the manual which you will get. But in the end YOU choose the tone which is needed.

Congrats!

The suggested presets are a good place to start and a reasonable approximation of the various tones they're supposed to cop. Depending on your bass and amp, you'll probably want to tweak things a little.

Personally, when I plug in a bass I haven't played in awhile, I typically start with the treble and bass at 12 o'clock with just a little of drive and presence mixed in and go from there. The EQ controls are extremely sensitive, so make small, incremental changes to dial it in just right.

I've always found the SansAmp to be a blessing in the studio, and the engineers I've worked with have never had anything negative to say about them. Good luck (and, most importantly, have fun).

3 channel programmable.

im assuming its a good DI box alone without even using the "effects?"

and light adjustments are expected. glad to hear they give a good starting point though.

I take it you mean the sample settings in the manual. Personally I don't care for any of them, but trying them out was helpful to hear the various tones the box is capable of. After some tweaking and experimentation I found a 'baseline' setting I use as a starting point for the tones I like. You just have to play with it to find what sounds best to you.
