what effects made for guitar work well with a bass? I noticed that many of the same effects cost more for bass than guitar so I thought I'd ask.

First of all, this one has been covered a lot so do a search.

The short answer is everything but dirt, but there are still a lot of dirt pedals for guitar that work well on bass.

Hundreds of them work just fine. It really comes down to a research thing. If there is something you are interested in, either give it a try yourself or search the forum and see if any other people have. Out of all the effects I've owned (would be well over 100 by now, for sure) the majority of them would have been 'guitar' effects.

Only one of the pedals on my board was designed for bass.

I would think that besides distortions, wahs should also be designed to be bass-friendly.

Out of the various wahs I've tried (admittedly not a lot though...), those that are not designed for bass seem to cut lows, and even if you mod it for that, the sweep frequency isn't really appropriate (sounds good solo but gets lost easily in the mix).... and if you mod that too, you're just making it into a wah designed for bass.

Then again, the distortions I use are not bass designed but I'm happy with them.
