Well gang I think I just ordered my last pedal for a while.
It is a custom MS-20 filter clone (LP/BP/HP) from Robot Factory!
It is the last effect I have been lusting over to complete my synth board. My chain will be:
OC2>Moog LPF (Loop A)>LS2(Loop A goes to) > Woolly Mammoth> Noise Box> Heliotrope> MS-20 Filter> Bass Balls> Small Stone> Shape Shifter Tremolo (Loop B)
I usually run the mix 50/50 A/B.
Both filter cutoff freq will be run by my Moog MP 201. I will use an EHX swtich blade to go between LFOs and Sweeps for both so I can do it on the fly with out changing the presets on my MP 201. It will all be midi synced to the DJs laptop that runs the beats for my band.
I am really excited about having a LFO wobbel on my sub bass while sweeping a HP filter on my fuzz/oscillators. It sould make for some killer DnB sounds! Pics and sound samples will follow when I get it in a month.

Gonna sound friggin sweet man. Do you guys play shows yet? I'd live to see you rig in action, DnB bass players really are the most knowledgable about the sound coming out of their basses IMO.

I think the reason lots of DnB musicians know what they are doing when it comes to effects is because they are also involved in production of DnB tracks. Producing music, especially somthing like DnB will give you a great foundation of understanding sound synthesis. So when you hear a recording of something you don't think "what magic pedal makes that sound." You are more able to dissect the sound and say,"wow that square wave sounds great under that LFOing Low pass filter."

Darn, well when you guys start playing around lemme know.
I kind of stumbled into electronic music by accident, I had a old school MIDI program that just used standard notation and during some down time at college I started messing around to make cool sounds. One thing led to another and now I have a pretty extensive knowledge of electronic music and how to make some insane sounding stuff.
What really got me interested in DnB was a band that was playing in the campground of a music festival last summer. I had no idea what the racing barrage of sound was, but I knew it was some of most unique sounding music I've heard. Live DnB is very hard to describe, and never replicated on a recording.

| | | man... can't wait to hear the clipz.
but for DnB pedal geeks, i srlsly recommend a pitch shifter. cos its not just abt having a booming sub bass. there shd be at least some form of harmony going on top of it like a killer bee on steroids. it'll work wonders.
i usually try out "The Grid" on www.dogsonacid.com for some fresh ideas. |

I am gonna use the BPF/HPF to isolate harmonic continent from my oscillators (mammoth, noisebox, heliotrope) then LFO them slightly to create interest. It is the Noisia method to create a reece bass.

Wouldn't mind getting together sometime and trying out that moog stuff. I've never had a chance. That MP-201 is very tempting. What is the name of your group, where have you guys been playing, and who with? If you want to set up a show with my band (funk, house, dance band, lots of improve), let me know.

I can't decided how my chain is gonna end up. Either the Moog filter is gonna be in my sub-bass loop or I am gonna run them side by side.
If the moog is in my sub loop I will need a second gated fuzz. LFOing LP Fuzz Sub with a HP LFOing reece bass on top sounds pretty good!
Then again, running them side by side could create some sick reece bass/ band pass stuff with the HP and LP LFOing at diffrenet sub divisions of the beat creating a variable width moving band pass on my fuzz/crusher/ring mod stuff. Plus I can do LFOing band pass reject also.........
Arg... I hate waiting

I again state my interest in hearing samples of your whole setup when Mario gets this to you.
I'm most curious about how your Reese bass setup will work/sound. I've seen them setup in Reason and wondered how you could simulate that with a bass and pedals. I believe John Davis said he would use a flanger which makes sense. Interesting stuff. |

To me a Reece Bass is more about the hz range it falls in than anything else but I am approaching it more as a evolved production term (Dogs on Acid)...Modern DnB especially Neurofunk (which I am really into at the moment) has stacked and usually parallel or similarly rhythmic baselines. The kick is super low and punchy EQed at 30-80 hz, the Sub Bass is on top of that very tightly at 30-100 hz, the reece sits on top of all of that at a much higher hz range. It carries most of the distortion, fuzz, envelope sounds etc. It is the interest creating component of the bass line. It really is done many ways now, not just with a dual oscillator detuned and with two different wave types. I am really after getting this stacked sound.
If you want an example check out Spor or Noisia. I can recommend Noisia, Fabriclive.40 (DJ Set) as a mind blowing modern DnB DJ set with really no filler. An hour and 15 min of DnB perfection.
