I have been wanting a wah for a long time cause i've seen/herd all the tight stuff that can be done with one, but i am totally inexperienced...can anyone tell me the most effective way to use it/point me to a link that can?

if you use other pedals make sure the wahwah comes first, other wise you can get some pretty messed up sounds

regarding pedal order, I think you should just try distortion/fuzz both before and after the wah. You get a more pronouced wah sound if the wah is after, but you affect how the distortion works if it's before, and they're both cool sounds.

What other pedals do you have? That would help.

Hi aschreiber2010.

One approach to using a wah-wah pedal is to make the notes that you play 'talk' or 'cry' by exploiting the pedal's ability to produce 'ooooh' and 'aaaah' vowel sounds.

On a bass this will work better by playing above the 12th fret in conjunction with a vibrato technique--just like gui-tards do.

A wah-wah lesson from the master himself:

The main trick is learning to coordinate your foot with what your hands are doing. Just play around with it for a bit. Try doing slow wah sweeps while playing a riff or passage. Try sweeping it up and down in a pattern while playing. Try sweeping on individual sustained notes. Try setting or holding the wah at a "fixed position" (i.e., all the way up, or halfway down, etc.) and play while in that position. Throw some distortion before the wah for some crazy screaming solos, or toss it behind the wah for something more subtle, but still cool. Or my favorite: place a delay pedal after your wah and try sweeping while playing. It gets freaky.

Experiment with these kinds of possibilities, and you'll get an idea of what you can do with a wah pedal.

When The Man posts in your thread, you have to tattoo his words on your forehead.

I did at least.
