Justin Chancellor and Lovetone

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm perfectly aware that Justin Chancellor's live pedalboard has no Lovetone effects, despite a snapshot suggesting he may have used them. However, it is possible he used them in the studio. Perhaps he didn't use them live because he felt they were too valuable, or because it would take longer to tweak them live (as you know, they are very complex pedals.)

Here's possible how he could have used them on 10,000 Days

Jambi - Could likely have used the Big Cheese or Brown Source. Live, he uses the Coloursound Fuzz.
The Pot - He may have used the Meatball with a fuzz in its effects loop.
Lost Keys - It is possible the Wobulator may have been used.
Rosetta Stoned - For the "strapped down" bit, he may have again used the Meatball, likely with an overdrive/fuzz in its loop.
Right in Two - The tremolo part could have incorporated the Wobulator.

Perhaps he purchased the Guyatone pedals and the Coloursound Fuzz as live alternatives to his Lovetones.

I'm just saying maybe.

I'm thinking he may have used one or more of them on the grassy knoll, and it's possible he might have used the ? during the filming of the supposed Apollo landing.

I don't really get this whole business about complicated pedals being hard to use live (although I have been gigging a BMS for a while now and I've recently put a Meatwad on my board). The way I see it if you like the sound of something but can't get your head around adjusting it mid-set, and you're in Tool, you'd just have 12 of them.

I doubt it's because they're too valuable, he does tour with Wals.

The famous picture among here shows the various Lovetone pedals, but not the Foxx Fuzz/wah. So it is possible he used the Meatball on the Pot. Either that, or that picture was taken before he recorded the solo.

I thought the producer/friend/wanderer/gypsy dude in the studio with him said "hey try these out" and then took a picture, nothing else. It was like that time Eddie Murphy was caught with the hooker with a penis.

That too is possible.

If I ever see him (which is highly unlikely), I'll ask about the Lovetone pedals. If he doesn't comment, I'll assume he didn't really give a crap about 'em. But I doubt he'd be silent about them.

Actually, if he is smart, he would say he used them, forever confusing the internet boards with misinformation, of teens attempting to copy his tone...

Ironically, I walk the line... I'm on both forums.

Whose side am I REALLY on?

I knew it was a mistake to sign up on Tooltabs. I feel like Gizmo in Gremlins. No more after-midnight burrito runs for me...
