Alright, so I am completely new to effects in general (played for a year now). However, I have a fairly clear, albeit semi-wide, idea of what I desire. Been doing research for about a month now and my desired tone is kind of like Timmy's (no I'm not tone chasing, he just has the closest tone to what I like): it is very dirty. The best examples I can give is Guerrilla Radio during the heavy chorus and Bulls on Parade. The other end of the width of what I want would be Dirk from Incubus in Privilege (intro).
I've been trying to listen to as many demos as I can and, when I have time, try out the limited variety of pedals that my local GC has. Of ones I've tested in person, I've liked the Fulltone Mosfet the most. My next one the list is to try out the Ashdown Driver. Thanks to this guy, I've gotten a great taste of fuzz however most of them really sound too far off. They remind me a lot of Brad from Muse. Granted they sound good in their songs I don't desire that tone that much. Mark_Olsen gave some great samples of the Frantone Lo Tone Classic Fuzz. That is really the first fuzz I have liked quite a bit.
Nonetheless...... I know this is such a wide question, but I do feel kind of lost as it is my first pedal. What can you guys suggest as I move forward? Any great ideas or stories? More pedal suggestions/demos always helps! |

But on the high end.. it just sounds stupid imo. I think I just fell too far into the oscillator stomp function and just closed the window the first time I watched it. |

According to me it sounds like poo for higher gain distortion, but I think it is superior to the Fulltone Bass-Drive for keeping things slightly dirty. There's a thread with about 4,235,208 replies in it by now. I don't quite get the awe myself (I do own one, my guitarist uses it), but for slightly dirty stuff, it is the proverbial cheese in my experience.
Fatman V2 sounds marvelous at lower gain settings. I know technically it is a fuzz, but it sounds more in the distortion realm to my ears when not playing with the oscillation mode. Adds a lot of girth, and now that I read the website, technically the "normal" side is not a fuzz. So my ears were right for once, how exciting.
I'm starting to leave my B:Assmaster turned on more and more, as even though it is definitely a harsh sounding fuzz, with enough of the bass signal dialed in it really does that aggressive driving rock type tone. I'm starting to sound like a sycophant for this company, but hey, Josh is a swell dude, so why not?
Back to said Fulltone, I do think that makes an excellent first pedal. It has a lot of tones, and you can really learn the type of sound(s) you seek by spending a lot of time with one. Jack of all trades, master of none.
