Keyboard sync'd bass synth

Can't afford the deep impact, but saw this the other day on jools holland. Check out the bass player playing through the synth:

Love the sound he has....

Any words of advice/sympathy? Is that a normal guitar/pup setup?
How do you connect to a synth like that? It looks DI....***?


Triggering synth via bass is a bit unusual which is why i'm asking for some advice.

Interestingly he's still playing wayyyyy up the neck as if he's pushing an OC-2.

Or could just be equipped with a GK style hex pickup. Playing high up the scale is possibly to ensure acceptable tracking for the pitch-to-midi (if it's not an Industrial Radio midi bass) ...
