Kickdisk

Search turned up nothing, so I though I'd share this. Seems pretty cool for non-expression equipped stomps.

Looks like it would be easy to bend a shaft if you lost balance and stepped on it a bit too hard.

It bends and slips to help prevent that, but I've never used one so I can't speak to how well that works.

I always wondered why more companies don't propose an MXR style speed knob? (patent maybe...?). Those work great, and compared to this, the big advantage is you don't have to remove them when putting the pedalboard in its case or bag. But if you have a lot of room in your lid, why not.

Well, you can get those rubber knob covers aftermarket for, like, a buck.

Yea but how can you play and bend down at the same time? With the kick disk you can keep playing and just nudge it with your foot right? I'm going to buy one and try it out. It's like 10 bucks, so worth it to try.

You are right to be skeptical, but ...

Pedals are expensive these days, so you're right to be skeptical. But I designed KickDisk to be safe with any pedal. In fact, if you were to step on a KickDisk by accident, it would be safer than stepping on the regular knobs of a pedal by accident, because those are rigid while KickDisk is flexible. A broken pedal is a real tragedy.

And KickDisk works - I put some videos on youtube so you can see it in action. But the main point is I use them on even my boutique/expensive pedals, no worries. I haven't heard any complaints from anyone about damage to pedals. And I haven't heard any feedback yet saying that KickDisk doesn't work.

Somebody on this forum try one out and give the unbiased feedback - I'm the builder so you can't trust me!!! But any questions, let me know!

Cool little idea.

To Mr. KickDisk,

Will you be offering the disk in any smaller sizes in the near future?

Robertron, we are just doing this one size for now. Any smaller and it becomes very difficult to control precisely. We tested many different sizes and this one had the best mix of control with not getting in your way. If you try one out you'll see the radius couldn't be smaller and still have the idea work so well.

Why would you want it to be a smaller size?

Ahh alright.

I was just wondering because on some pedals where you may want control over multiple parameters, like envelope filters or modulation pedals, and may want to use more than one KickDisk I could see them overlapping a bit. But I guess they'd have to be tiny to avoid that.

They cost so little I may order one for the heck of it.

Robertron, that's a common question we get. My response usually is: "Better one KickDisk than none!"

KickDisk is transparent so that you can see and adjust your other knobs, and see LEDs etc.

Hey KickDisk : have you thought about disks of different heights to solve that problem? That might allow two of them to not get in each other's way.

M0ses,

The base of the KickDisk is a little bit taller than it needs to be, so that if you want you can actually place one KickDisk a little higher than another. But two KickDisks mounted so they overlap may still interfere with each other (especially because, for safety reasons, they are somewhat flexible), so we do not advertise that as a feature.

Chowowbus - I'd consider that a benefit! Here's a pic of about half of an iteration of my board: http://www.flickr.com/photos/23351365@N00/4926149985/
