| | | | Kitara: Why All The Hate? I've done a search and it seems like some people are really against the Misa Kitara. It seems like an awesome instrument, full of opportunities to add accents, texture, and be taken as a serious instrument. Now I'm not a techno/electronica guy, but it's not just punching notes in a computer (like dubstep/techno), human mistakes can be made and it takes skill (a lot of skill) to operate well.
I don't get it. Do people just really want to only play guitars, drums, piano and bass in a rock band? What progressive boundaries is that pushing? Or is there some other reason, like it not being viewed as a serious instrument? As always, replies much appreciated.

I know that I have no interest in one. It looks like something made for the Guitar Hero crowd.

On a serious note, because people are stuck up in dogmas what a guitar like instrument should work like. This isn't a guitar. It's a midi controler that does some awesome synthy stuff and has a guitar note layout. If I tried to view tomato as a piece of technology that'd propel me to moon I'd be deadly wrong and possibly insane. If I see a tomato as a fruit I'd be right. Quote:

If you question whether this is a serious instrument, you're, deeply inside, questioning whether any kind of a synth or a midi controller is a serious instrument.

Another completely unserious instrument is the extended range bass guitar. I mean, like, why do you need the extra strings. Also, why would you need a bass guitar in first place? I mean, what can it do better than a regular double bass? I mean, totally, if you play a guitar you should play a 6 string electric guitar. Or no, go back to flamenco. In fact, you should go back to the first one stringed instrument that had no frets. Or possibility to change notes. Actually, music is dumb, let's go rape and pillage.
^some aggressive thinking
People who claim any instrument is stupid are committing to a serious logical fallacy... I used to think bass guitars with more than 6 strings are extremely stupid and you should learn to play piano instead. Then I come across a guy who can utilize this instrument to play something that'd require four hands on a piano... So yeah. Quote:

And to the OP, get a Kitara and enjoy it! I haven't seen so much closed mindness in a while (read some youtube comments on kitara). Everyone jumps onto the bandwagon of 'it's unpopular because someone decided so and we will bash it'.

So it does synth stuff? I'd rather play a synth. Just like a keytar does stuff that keys can do...but I'd rather play keys.

Exactly. You would. So let's call everything we would not use for some reason a gimmick. I am sure there were thousands of DB players who thought (and, well, I know some still do) bass guitar is a gimmick.

Maybe it isn't " just punching notes into a computer" but it is a more synthesized experience. |

which is what's mostly done in dubstep.

EDIT: okay, I watched the video. Looks like a fun toy for a kid to keep himself or herself busy for a half hour or so, and then move on to something else. But if someone is spending their brain time "hating" such a gizmo, I recommend they seek professional help as there is medication that can help them.

Guitar shaped synthy thing. I don't think it looks particularly comfortable to work with, and might be limiting in some ways that traditional synths aren't. It does some things differently, but I highly doubt it does any of it "better" than a regular synth. It's a different strokes kind of thing for sure
