Is Korg discontinuing their rack tuners?

Sign in to disble this ad
The Korg DTR1000 and 2000 tuners are no longer listed at any major online retailers? not AMS, ZZounds, Musicians Friend, Sweetwater, Sam Ash, 8th Street.

Still listed on the Korg website though. What's up?

too bad. I would guess a rack tuner is more of a "niche" market but I would think they're at the top of that niche?

I've always had the dilemma of deciding between a rack or pedal tuner.

I just picked up a DRT1000 from a guy here on TalkBass.

I was wondering the same thing.
The DTR1000 and DTR2000 seem to be discontinued everywhere, but still shown on the Korg website.

Why would Korg discontinue their rack offerings if they don't have any new models to replace them?

I know you guys are going to flame me, but I agree.

I used to be a total pedal whore a few years ago, but I got tired of having 15-20 boxes sliding all over the floor, cables all over the place, the 9V batteries because power supplies were too expensive at the time, all of the signal degradation, etc...
I sold all my pedals and moved into multi effects units and have never looked back.
Right now, being as I just moved, I'm trying to get my home studio converted as much as possible into the rackmount format, with as little extra stuff as possible.

In my search for a rack tuner, I came across the DTR1000 and DTR2000, some older Korgs like the DTR1 and DTR2, various Sabine tuners, the Fender tuner and some Behringers.

Are rack tuners really that limited of a market?
I know that compact and portable is usually the way to go for most gigging musicians, but I know for a fact that there are a decent number of players that use rack rigs, and it seems that a rack tuner would be quite desirable to those players.

well i guess some people liked them but rack tuners get on my nerves. i don't like all the lights. too distracting. plus i hate racks. the happiest day of my life was getting rid of my rack a year and a half ago. ok, maybe not THE happiest day of my life...actually, it's not even close. but i am happy to have gotten rid of my rack. but even when i had one i never wanted a rack tuner. i use a korg ca-30. $20, always works, fits in your pocket, and if you lose it or break it, big deal.

It could be that that small, stripped down rigs are having somewhat of a renaissance at the moment, and there's not a lot of call for rack units presently.

That said, bash them all you like, but I believe Behringer make a rack tuner very similar to the korg that may be worth a look. I think it's considerably cheaper too. I've have good experiences with their rack gear in the past so don't dismiss them immediately because of the name.

I feel the exact opposite.
The rackmount format is one of the most convenient concepts to have ever graced my life.
It's extremely convenient for me to be able to put all of my gear in one (Well, actually I have two racks side by side) enclosure rather than have crap all over the place.

I should note, however, that I am strictly a home studio player and my gear never gets moved. Racks do get quite heavy and quite large.

Apparently rackmount gear never took off for guitar rigs.
I thought that it was much more popular in the bass world, given the fact that so many bass amplifiers are in the form of 2 space rackmount units?

Sabine make good ones.
Fortunately, most people quickly discover that rack tuners are a bad solution for them so they're super easy to find on the 2nd hand market.

Hence why many of us are glad to be rid of our racks. Yes it's convenient to have everything in one box ready to roll. But a PITA to lug around. A mini amp head and couple of pedals is a hell of a lot easier move around.

I actually think a rack would be easier... I put my cab on a dolly, stack everything on top of that and secure it w/ a ratchet strap. If I had a rack that'd be 2 boxes and my fan instead of cab>head>box-o-cables>pedalboard>fan

Actually, a 1/2 size rack w/ my LMII, mini tuner, and mini SABDDI rack would be the bee's knees!! . . . hey, I can dream can't I?

Sabine does make good rack tuner. Unfortunately, they're discontinued as well.

I've got a pedal board, but use a DTR-1000 in my rack. Got it a few weeks ago in perfect condition, not kidding for $50 "buy it now" on ebay.

Take a look at some touring guitarists and bassists. Rack tuners are not a niche market.

Actually yeah, they're mostly used by touring musicians. Which makes them a niche market.

On a related note, this is the best tuner I ever had :

If you find one, jump on it.
