KORG DTR 2000 RACK TUNER + SA DI VS AMPEG DI

Sign in to disble this ad
When using this in the signal chain i.e example after the compressor before the sansamp does it suck away much tone or is it pretty good?

Failing that I suppose i could put it in the back of the svt 3 head from the tuner out.. which leads me to another question which DI is better out of the ampeg head or out of the sansamp???

I'm very confused by your first question. Can you elaborate on your entire signal chain?

Regarding question number 2.... I can't give you a definite answer. The DI on each is very different, because of what's running behind them. The SansAmp's DI is just like the regular output in terms of tone; it emulates a miked SVT stack.

Your Ampeg SVT-3 PRO DI can probably either output just the sound of your bass, or the sound of the preamp (neither of which are anything like a miked cabinet). I'm not sure if it has a pre/post EQ switch for the DI, though... do you know if it does?

So... you'll have to make your own judgment call on question #2.

OK cool.

Well my chain would be my bass, into a compressor, then into the rack tuner, then out of that and into a sansamp and into the head.

Yeah the ampeg has a pre/post eq.. The sansamp is being run infront of the amp so if you took a pre from ampeg DI it would still have the emulation and drive from the sansamp.. is this correct?

Yes, but what you're hearing from your cab right now is the SansAmp's sound mixed with your preamp. The DI results will be different. Setting the Ampeg's DI to post-EQ will produce that mixed sound you're hearing now, minus the cabinet's tone (which does mean a lot, but that's another story...).

If you set your Ampeg DI to pre-EQ, it'll be pretty much the same as running just from the SansAmp's DI (the difference would be due to the quality of the DI).

BTW... why are you running the DTR-1000 in-line? Keep it out of the loop using the "Tuner Out" jack on the back of your amp. Less cables are involved that way.

What compressor are you using, out of curiosity?

haha i know the di sounds will be different and that it's a mix of the pre and the sansamp and the speaker tone!! I actually record through the sansamp into pro tools and try and get a tone im happy with to try and recreate it going through a pa

right now i have a tuner/loop pedal on my pedal board where i can mute the tuner but it means three cables going everywhere on stage and its a pain packing it all up - i am lazy lol!

I want to put the tuner in the tuner send on the ampeg if the DI in the back is cool/ better than the sansamp... actually jsut as a passing thought it would be awesome if the sansamp rbio has a mute switch built into it..

I use a EBS multicomp... i find that and a sansamp combined really helps making the svt 3 amp come alive for rock.. the svt 3 by itself is awesome for funk and jazz but i tend to use my phil jones amp for that stuff.
