Korg G5 + expression pedal problems

Sign in to disble this ad
I tried two pedals so far - Ernie Ball Volume pedal and M-audio Expression pedal... in both cases, I could not get the filter to sweep all the way... I basically get stuck at the point where it is maybe half open...

while I can get some of the sounds I want, I would really need some advice to get the rest of the sounds I'am looking for... the pedal itself is capable of these sounds, but in it's automatic mode... so I'm guessing I just need to find the right expression/volume pedal

any suggestions? Not only from G5 users, opinions of everyone are very welcome!

no suggestions?

is it that simple that no-one bothers to answer or is it that complicated?

My guess would be that it has something to do with the "range" of an expression pedal, but I do not know much about that...

does anyone have any specifications of Korg's volume/expression pedals? the manual suggests using the VP-10 or KVP-001 pedal...

maybe I can find pedals with similar specifications and try them...

I'm a bit surprised that a volume pedal would do anything, actually, but maybe the G5 doesn't follow the 'normal' exp. pedal wiring.

Which Ernie Ball pedal did you try? The 25k or the 250k?

I'd be leaning towards something around the 100k area or greater. From what I can google the VP-10 is a 250k volume pedal. The XVP-10 is a 50k pedal, but the KVP-001 is a difficult beast to track down!

Ha, I tried what my guitarist had lying around, though I'm almost 100% that it was the 250K version of the Jr pedal... but I just read that it has some kind of switch somewhere, maybe I should try it again... anyway, I made it work with a Y cable connecting the input and output to a stereo jack which I plugged into the Korg...

so, if the VP-10 is 250K, pedals with 250K pots should work...

from the G5 manual:
Connect the output jack (OUTPUT) of the volume pedal to the G5's fc pedal input jack (fc). Set the Minimum Volume control of the volume pedal to 0.

so, I'll try to get a 250K exp.pedal (or that Jr. again) and experiment some more...

I tried the EB Jr (250K version) again and it works! I don't know what I was doing the first time, heh, but I did use a different cable this time... It even works using just the "output" (not running stereo or whatever) of the Jr, like the manual suggests... now I'm watching a Korg KVP-001 (the seller says it has a 200K pot) pedal on eBay as it should also fit (it says so in the manual), cause I don't feel like buying an EB jr. to use it just as an expression pedal...

Did you settle with the 250K EB or did it not work out? I have a 25K EB which I could mod to 250K for my use if it worked.

TIA
