Korg Pandora PX4D into computer?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been thinking of pulling the trigger on a used PX4D in my area so I can finally get some good quality recordings of my bass playing up on YouTube. I want to use it like MarloweDK does, recording with it going direct to my computer. So here are my 2 questions ...

1) What would I need along the lines of cables to use it through my computer?

2) Is it a really worth while tool to have? I use a small little 15 watt practice amp but am barely ever satisfied with the tone I'm getting as opposed to my rehearsal/live set up and want to know if this will help!

If you're buying something specifically for recording to computer I would avoid the PX4D. Although a great little unit (and I have one), it's more for practice than recording, and as such lacks things like USB.

In this case, I would recommend looking for a Line6 GX interface. It's a USB interface that comes with the excellent podfarm software. The beauty of this, it you can record your bypassed tone and 'reamp' afterwards if you don't like the tone.

Thanks! That sounds really interesting and Im doing some browsing now on the PodFarm stuff and it looks great! The thing is, I doubt I'd be able to find one locally and it's a bit over my budget as I've got other stuff that is going to cost some money. I'll definitely watch out for it though.

Have you ever used your PX4D into your computer for recording purposes?

No I haven't. I didn't buy it for that purpose so I've never tried it. To be honest, as handy a tool as it is, I don't think recording is one of it's strong points. The effects/amp sims are ok and good enough for practice, but not something that I would want to record with, I have better tools for that.

There's actually a free version of Amplitube 3 that has a couple of bass models that might be worth a look. If your computer has a line in or mic in, that might work in a pinch.

Ive had mine for like 6-7 yrs now. I love that thing. I have used it to record quite a few times. My first few videos were made with it. I use my Mac now with PT and imovie. What you really need is simple. You need a good headphone splitter (I lucked out and found one with volume controls), an 1/8 to 1/8 cord and a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter so you can plug into the mic input of the computer (the Pandora only has 1/4in input/output).

Plug the adapter in the output.
Plug the splitter in the adapter
Plug your headphones in one side and the 1/8 cord in the other
The 1/8's other end goes into the mic in of your computer

Other interfaces may trump it in recording wise, but its hard to beat the versatility of the Pandora. Im pulling the trigger on the PX5D as well, which is the same with more and a USB as well.

Heres one of my first vids (ever lol) with that setup. Funk Bass Groove Jam- YouTube. I know the camera sucked lol.

Thanks man! Been looking through all your videos for the past 10 minutes or so and they all sound great, especially your TRB6

The cable information is what Ive been really looking for, and it sounds like you've got it all figured out, I hope the guy thats selling it locally might be interested in some trades and if not I think Ill shell out the cash to get it, hes got it listed at 50 but I could probably get for around 35 ... from what I've seen thats a sweet deal!

Okay, this thread is about 15 days dead but I figured I'd do some follow up!

Got a PX4D the day before yesterday, and it's like a little box sent from heaven! It's recording may not be the best quality ever, but totally up to par with Youtube recordings and what I need to do with it. Also, the tones I've designed are just great. Got an attachment to get it to use my amp as somewhat of a monitor and use a signal splitter to send it to the amp and to my computer. Got it for $50 used locally!

I'll have some soundclips up at some point!
