Question korg pitchblack - 600 mA?

Sign in to disble this ad
Sooo I'm looking at power supplies and the manual for the Korg Pitchblack very clearly states that the power supply must be 9v and at least 600mA. Yet there are many posts on here saying you can run it off a brick, voodoo, supa charger, etc. which are only rated for 300mA max.

I haven't had a chance to measure the actual draw on it yet but uh.. what gives?

Also on the power supply issue.. the BBE SupaCharger can output 12v by setting the dip switches but it doesn't give current specs for when you change the voltage. I assume it wouldn't be the same but I don't really understand power supply... I'm assuming V = IR doesn't apply here.

I use my pitchblack with a Voodoo PP2+ and it runs just fine. I think the big problem (if any) would arise when if you were say daisy chaining your whole board off of the PB's power out jack.

As long as you aren't doing that, you won't run into any problems (I haven't) using a brick, PP2+ or whatever else. It may just need more juice if you are running your board through the pedal.

You can run a Pitchblack off of a battery for quite a long time- that alone tells you that it has a pretty low mA draw, nowhere near 600mA at all. It's probably around 10-50mA if you're not powering other pedals off of it.

Here is a very useful website for pedal current draw.

http://stinkfoot.se/power-list

The Korg is listed with a 35 mA draw when tuning. It is listed under "others."

This telecaster website

http://http://www.tdpri.com/forum/st...quirement.html

also discusses the Pitchblack; one poster says the 600mA "requirement" is for use in powering other pedals via the daisy chain.
