Korg PX4D bass amp models

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought a PX4D and I'm curious exactly what amps Korg is modeling. Being a relatively new bass player (around a year), I don't have a deep enough history with bass amps to decipher some of the clever model names.

Please fill in this list. I've made a few guesses but they are probably wrong. Thanks!

VALVE - Ampeg VT100
VALVE2 - Ampeg VT100
CLASSIC - Ampeg VT100
SCOOPED - Trace Elliot??? GK????
LA STUD - Trace Elliot??
GOLDPNL - Eden of some sort??? Or Marshall?
JAZZ - ???
STUDIO - Ampeg B-15
AC100 - Vox AC-100
UK MAJOR - Marshall???

From what I read, guessed and gathered :

VALVE - Ampeg SVT with Ultra Low on
VALVE2 - Ampeg SVT, slightly distorted
CLASSIC - Fender Bassman 100
SCOOPED - Gallien Krueger 800RB
LA STUD - Mesa Boogie 400+
GOLDPNL - Eden WT-400
JAZZ - Roland JC-120
STUDIO - Ampeg B-15
AC100 - Vox AC-100
UK MAJOR - Marshall Major Bass 200

While inspirations may be accurate, models aren't really up to the expectations. They're ok for recording or practice but I'd avoid using them through a real bass amp. They tend to muffle things a bit.

Jazz ad was right about every amp model except for the jazz model. the jazz model is based on the polytone minibrute.

Thanks for filling in my list.

I would never have guessed a couple of these. As for the JAZZ model, I had never heard of a JC-120 or a Polytone being used for bass. Guess it makes sense, since both probably come with heavy duty, high wattage speakers.

I did buy the PX4D for headphone only practice with my guitar and bass. I prefer tubes amps for guitar and a GK 700RB-II for bass. I can't decide whether or not to return the Pandora. I already have a MicroCube which works great for guitar and bass (headphones only w/bass), has an Aux in, etc. The PX4D has more models and features, but it's a bit of overkill. Some of the sounds are also a little too fake. The effects are neat, but I have a pedalboard that has everything I need.

I do like the Synth and Filter effects on the PX4D, however. Way more than I ever though I would. That might grow old, however.

They both were amps of choice for the jazz bassist, URB or electric in the 70s-80s. They have similar qualities with well defined lows and a lot of high mids. Walter Woods were also used a lot if you were lucky and wealthy enough to land one.

In my opinion though, this triumvirat really belongs to the past. Nowadays jazz musicians have a lot of options for better tone and more power, along with less weight. If you get out in clubs you are more likely to see brands like EBS, Epifani, Bergantino and more recently, Genz Benz and Markbass.

Korg usually hints on what the amp models are modeled after on their multi-effects processors. that's because korg doesn't want to pay copyrights to bass amplifier companies of what amp models that they use except for vox. vox is associated with the korg company in the UK.
