Laying down a pad

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm actually not really sure what I'm looking for, but I'd like to be able to lay down ambient pads using my bass and some effects to fill out chill part of songs instead of bringing a keyboard. Does anyone do this? and if so how? and what do you use?

thanks

I've used a volume pedal into reverb for that sort of thing, sometimes with a bit of modulation or a harmonizer.

But I am also curious if there's somthing else!

I use a long delay with a good bit of repeat and some volume swells. A wooly fuzz and tapping the note then swell the volume up tends to make a good sustainy type swell.

I use a Roland GR-20 and a loop station.

I've got a Digitech Expression Factory that has some really cool ambient synthy pad settings. I don't really get to use them as much as I thought I would, though.

I can also get a similar effect by running the Expression Factory as a volume pedal into my H2O with the chorus and delay both on.

you could get a synth pedal with a hold function
you could get a looper

I wonder...Would a ducking delay keep the other delay trails and oscillate enough to work as a pad?

A nice reverb unit would be a plus.

Digitech expression factory huh...hmm
