I've read on a bassplayer interview that he used a mpulse 600, a orange guitar amp and a DI and a Pod for the recording, with most tones comming from the pod and DI with an extra fuzz from the orange amp.

an overdriving mesa walkabout can get close!

he uses a fulltone bassdrive live

definitely not the cheapest option! I don't know this head but Ben kenney uses one live so It might get close. Anyway, a big block and a fulltone bassdrive in compcut mode driving the preamp tube would get close! He uses flats too that helps getting a little dry tone where the OD is lower voiced than the typical john entwistle tone!

so would using the fulltone bass drive with a big block make more of a difference than just using the overdrive on the big block

What I've heard from the clips is that the OD on the big block is more a tight gain OD , not that fuzzy, what I hear in Leech seems to be a clipping input stage with tubes, and you can get that with a fulltone bassdrive in COMPCUT mode (important) or anyother gain booster pedal. Using a bassdrive in FM or vintage mode would not differ to much from the BB overdrive tone. But then Again, It's only based on what I hear and I don't own a big block ( I do own a walkabout so I know what it is to drive it's input stage)

No, sorry had both but not at the same time, I know ben kenney uses both and it reaaly seems to be in compcut mode

why don't you just try to push on your OD of the Bigblock and see what I does?

yes if you can borrow one from a friend or of a shop..

any clean/dirty booster would get close thougt, and I also suggest you to crank up your input volume t'il crunch ( in clean mode) I'tll be easier for the BD to drive the tubes into OD
