Hey Guys,
This is a part 2 of this thread: Let hear your Electronica, D'n'B, or Dub, Experimental Electronic Band.
We finally got our EP done! Due to band issues I was only able to put part of it up for free download for now. I am sure I can get the other tracks up in time....
Anyway here it is: http://www.myspace.com/mixedmethodmusic
Here is a thread on my effects rig: My Sound (A Synth Bass Adventure)
Looking forward to hearing other goodies from fellow TB effect junkies.

I'm currently working on a new style of material, over the last few months I had some key revelations on how to make my music sound more professional and organized so I moving away from the stuff I have on the myspace link in my sig.
Part of this is because I recently got a DAW called Reaper which is miles ahead of any program I have used previously (Sony Acid, Finale, Audacity, and Noteworthy). The workflow of this program is very fast and easy, you can customize keyboard shortcuts, edit effects in realtime, and automate effects, not to mention the capabilities of MIDI!
This weekend I've managed to get about half of a song to kick off the new batch, I'll be back in this thread when its ready (its a mixed bag of Dubstep, DnB, and Ambient influences).
For my pedalboard so far I only have a Boss OC-2, SYB-5, Danelectro FAB Distortion, and a TS9, but I'll be picking up a Moog MF101 and a DBX 166XL soon and upgrading my rig so it can be loud enough to put a small crowd in a state of temporary insanity... :P
On average how long does it take you guys to write a song on a DAW?
I find that some of my best stuff is finished within a week or two of focused work with maybe 30-40 hours invested.

But right now I can't afford a few hundred dollars for a sideproject when I need to spend around $1500 for my rig, bass, and a few things for my bands PA. I would much rather play this music on bass with a live band and have programmed tunes for the albums or DJ sets.
rnilson, I don't see any link on your page to download the tracks? The new stuff sounds great man, your shows must be intense!

There used to be a download tab on the old player myspace used but it isn't there on the new one. Anyone know what I did wrong?

I find that some of my best stuff is finished within a week or two of focused work with maybe 30-40 hours invested. | Im another fan of Ableton Live, but I haven't finished anything yet.. I start something, work on it a few weeks or so, and at some point during that time start something else that I like better, and the other project is left unfinished; rinse, repeat. My workflow has been slowly changing though as I gain experience and confidence with the quality of my work.
I got a laptop and Ableton live two winters ago and have been using it since, its the only DAW that I've used for more than a few minutes, but I like it a lot and the live performance aspect of it is a big plus; some of my friends use it so I was able to get a few tips along the way as Ive been learning how to use this stuff. I picked up the bass about 6 months before I got the laptop/Ableton, and spent most of my time learning to play bass. I got an RC50 soon after and didn't touch Ableton for a long time because the RC50 did everything I needed it to-- beats to play to, quick and easy recording of ideas, etc; it wasn't until about a year ago that I started to really dig into Ableton, and in the last few months I've been really trying to make beats (out of necessity for the project).
Im still fairly inexperienced with all this stuff, so my work flow isn't the fastest as I often tend to drift into experimentation and don't get any actual material done; a lot of this time is also spent thinking about how it will all be done live, programming my controllers, and all that. Right now Im really trying to get some of these beats tied together so we can get some finished songs; we have up to 10 or so jams that we're pretty happy with, but no completed songs yet... on top of that we've got at least 30 good jams to rc50 loopstation beats that we never pursued, though I don't know if we'll dig back at all since we've progressed a lot since (when we stopped playing with the drummer, we just jammed to the rc50 for 3 or 4 months.. lol.. I finally just decided to trying making beats). The guitarist/keyboardist has been making music much longer than I, but this style of music is uncharted territory for him, so the 9 months we've been playing together has just been jamming, learning, working on sounds, building my pedalboard, etc. I feel like we're really starting to get things together and finding 'our sound,' and if I can just finish up some of these beats then we should be able to finish up these songs and work them into a set so we can start gigging.
Anyway.. that long winded explanation is basically why this project has taken so long to get off the ground. I've been wanting to post some new stuff, but its pretty much just still all jamming/improv (we record every practice). Hopefully I'll have something to share in the next couple months. Until then, Im looking forward to hearing more of everyone's stuff- what ive heard so far sounds great, and is always inspirational! Quote:

I couldn't tell from your myspace. | the 1st link/ live recording is indeed a band (3 piece)
302acid, linked in my sig.
the second link (myspace) is a solo moniker, but i do a lot of audio/ video collaborations and soundtracks for indie media.
here's a video series( they used a track of mine for #7): http://www.babelgum.com/4001699/new-...w-shelter.html | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
