license transfer for used Line 6

There are several used Line 6 devices being sold on eBay (for example, TonePort UX1). Does the license need to be transferred from the original owner whenever buying a used Line 6 product? What is the process for this? What if the seller is a third party and not the original owner?

Not sure if it's still the same, but a few years ago you had to contact Line 6 and they would transfer the serial number to your account. I ran into that with a POD X3 that I had purchased from Guitar Center, but it was returned and previously registered.

So that begs the question - why does Line 6 bother with the hassle of licensed hardware & software if they allow selling used gear and re-assigning registration?

You won't be able to transfer any add-on packs. Those are tied to an individual's account, not the hardware.

Thanks for the link to their FAQ - seems like a pretty layered and complex licensing system, but Line 6 stuff was highly recommended to me.
