Limiter positioning

Hi all,
I'm thinking about putting a limiter in my chain and was wondering where would be the best place for it. My set up from the bass is: distortion > step synth > chorus > env.filter > amp.

I would say last in the chain, so between env.filter and amp.

Always put it where it will do the most good, and do the least harm. Sounds like I'm being flip with you, but that's the serious correct answer. What needs limiting? Put it after that. What needs wide dynamic input? Don't put it in front of that.

The end of the chain is the easiest safe bet, but it's not the only option.

I use my limiter for two things:

1) Stomp on peaks from my filters.
2) Buffer my signal to the amp.

So it goes at the end of my chain, outside my bypass loop, so it's always in the signal path.

normally a limiter is used 1)at the end of the chain or 2)after an envelope filter in a loop

in your case, there is an envelope filter at the end of your chain, so i would put the limiter after the filter.

In the studio, the limiter is ALWAYS last. That is the reason for a limiter. That way all the other devices cannot cause an increase to clip your preamp input.

Any wisdom on the use of limiters before fuzz or tracking effects, positive and negative?
