Gotta offer up a recommendation for the EHX Mole.
I took a chance on ordering one a few weeks ago, and I'm just getting to trying it out.
Wow. For 39 bucks, that's a whole lotta tone in that box. Not a million different tones, but if you want to really fatten up a bass, this is an easy, inexpensive ticket.
Love this thing.

For the price - it's a great little adder.

I use a warwick corvette jazzman and even though i love the tone the mid growl was a bit too much and was getting in the way of the keys a little bit. The mole pretty much takes away everything I love about the warwick tone and replaces it with a nice big fat bottom end that blends perfectly into the mix. Not for useful in my originals band but I use it all the time with my covers band.

| | | | i really like the mole in contexts i didn't expect... for nice quiet warm gentle heartfelt songs. i was expecting to use for big fat in your face songs, so was quite surprised when i realised it's best purpose - to fatten up your tone on the quiet ones. if you put in a mole after your fuzz or distortion, it just about completely eliminates the fuzz/dist because it cuts the high frequencies out. be really careful with it -- if you put it up past 10 o'clock, it gets really loud really fast and can be way too much in the soundboard and maybe even your cabinet. but a great pedal, overall. |

I put it in a bypass loop with a volume pedal today so I could crank it to exaggerate the eq curve even more while maintaining unity volume. It worked pretty well so I think I might mod it by putting a passive volume knob on the output.
If any of you other guys have a mole and a volume pedal I recommend testing this out for yourself. |

I found that anything past 10-10:30 was just too much and got muddy. There are several passages where I can't use it, due to it cutting the high mids and highs. If you like your growl, stay away from this. If you want to shake the place down to it's foundations..... this is for you. I didn't get a chance to adjust my EQ or my VT settings, nor did I get a chance to try different placements in my small pedal chain. I am glad to have gotten it. It will be useful to me and I know that after a few minutes of tweaking it on Friday I will be even more happy with it.
