Sign in to disble this ad
So, my GT-6B has given me the low battery warning.......has anyone had this changed out before????

Is it something I could do myself or as the handbook says - I need to take it to my nearest Roland dealer......??

cheers,

John

Looks like no-one. If I were you I'd take it to your local Boss dealer asap. If the battery goes you could lose all your presets.

If possible back them up via midi whilst there's still life in it.

Yeah.....I actually only have about 4 presets in there.....so no great loss.....have been meaning to spend more time with it for a good while actually....but through laziness set up 4 patches and just used them for everything I've needed.....think I need some more variation......

I actually went into my local dealer but the service guy wasn't in at the time.....

Lack of variation can be a good thing! Part of the reason I've stopped using mine. Too many different sounds was a pain to keep locked in with the rest of the band.

This is true......I had a GT-6B a long time ago....but never used it properly.....so got rid of it and got individual stomp boxes centred around a Sansamp BDDI......

I then got rid of them in favour of another GT-6B......and spent some time with this one......

I'm once again having some doubts.....but need to get the battery fixed first no matter what I do effects wise!!!

Update - so in case anyone else gets this message....

The unit can be opened by undoing the 10 screws in the bottom - the baseplate then comes off!

The backup battery is plainly visible and can be reomved by and and replaced - no soldering!

The battery is a CR2032 3v battery!

Find a way to back up your presets from the user patches - I lost mine but fortunately only had 4 patches that I regularly used. You can then do a factory rest and get the unit to the same way you got it from the store!!!

I wonder if it's one of those things where the memory if safe as long as you replace the battery within so many seconds of taking out the old one.

It's a possibility...but the battery is a wee bit fiddly to get out.....the new one is s doddle to get in though!

I initially tried it whilst it was powered on...figuring the battery would be redundant.....and also....figuring 14v was unlikely to throw me across the room if all went wrong!!!

Sadly, the 1st battery I tried was a 'new' one my father had 'discovered' in a drawer...sadly I now believe that this was an old one that had discharged....or had been swapped out of something as a precaution!!

I bought a new battery, installed it, and did the factory reset...all is now well......so I reckon it might have worked had I just tried it in the first place....power on, with a known good battery......

Oh well, you live and learn!!!
