Low pass/Envelope filter with punch?

Lately I've been on the look out for an envelope/low pass filter to add to my growing pedal arsenal but I'm not sure where to find what I'm looking for. I saw Primus this past summer and Les was using an envelope filter during some of there jams but his tone stayed so tight and punchy in the low end. I guess I'm looking for something like that but not necessarily his exact set up.

Can anyone give me a few ideas on where to look for a filter that really keeps the low end intact without it getting washed out in the effect?

Get one with a wet/dry mix or separate wet/dry levels. Or at least a good EQ.

Get one with variable Sensetivity and Resonance (sometimes called "Peak" or "Q") so you can dial back the intensity of the quack/blap.

If you want a working blend control avoid pedals based on the Meatball circuit - the filtered signal goes out of phase in Low- and High-Pass modes so all the blend does is make everything quieter and weedier!

It's still the best envelope follower I've played though, shame.

The MXR Bass Envelope Filter has separate wet/dry settings to help you dial in as much/little of the funk as you want.

True. In fact, the only thing I ever had to fuss over with it was to make sure it wasn't adding too much thump to my signal!

OP asked about Lowpass filters and this is a Bandpass, just saying.

Sure, but the reason given for it was to retain low end. That can be achieved different ways.

If you're looking for a pedal that will perform double duty between low pass and envelope filter, the Iron Ether Xero Dlx is hard to beat - the pedal speaks with authority, has a small footprint, works off of standard 9v power, high quality relay bypass, and is pretty darn spiffy looking.

By definition Bandpass cuts lows. For me, a clean blend is not the answer to every question about retaining lows. Of course, Different strokes for different folks.

I have had the MXR and Still have a Xero DLX. The MXR is a GREAT rock-n-roll envelope filter, it sits in a mix well.

The Xerograph has such a large amount of range that it can pummel a mix (and speakers if you aren't careful) with so much lows.

Yeah, I thought the MXR was pretty nice. Then I tried the Xerograph deluxe. It is almost perfect and extremely versatile.

I gather the MXR is very popular at the moment, I haven't tried it. In my experience, the Q-tron in LP mode has plenty of low end, a strong effect, and cuts through anything.
The Zoom B3 has some nifty filters as well.

In the short time I had the Sonuus Wahoo I would say it would do everything you need and a whole lot more, absolutely awesome pedal...so far. Would have been even better if the expression pedal worked out of the box, I am having withdrawals...can't wait to get it back, a lot of fun to be had in that box.
