Low-pass filter help!

I am in the market for a better (but still low-priced) low-pass filter that doesn't have an envelope function. I've been using an Ibanez SB7 on "autowah" mode with sensitivity and resonance all the way down and it's not cutting it for me. Either the envelope opens too little or goes all the way and results in a huge volume spike and totally ruins the phrase.

Questions:

1) Would a bass-specific EQ pedal (like the Boss GEB-7) work just as well?
2) Or would it be better replaced with another pseudo LPF pedal like the FX25?

Moogs are out of the question; I can't justify spending that sort of dosh and not use half of it, without any expression pedals.

The FX 25 is not "pseudo", it is a plain, straight up LPF. Are you asking for something that will roll off the highs and not resonate at all? In that case, you want an EQ pedal.

Wouldn't a low pass filter without an envelope function be an eq with the high end rolled off?

It's a question of resonance. The FX 25 resonates at certain frequencies, which is what makes a filter "funky" or "fat" sounding.

Swift- That's my point exactly; I'm trying to figure out the difference between the two, if any. I'm pretty new to this filtering thing so please forgive me if I appear ignorant about this.

In any case, I am looking for a dub sound... you know, that huge, deep tone that cancels out all the highs. I am not averse to having the envelope open a slight bit... in fact I think it sounds pretty nice. It's just that every other time I play, something invisible seems to change in my setup and my settings on the SB7 end up having to be tweak some more.

I don't really know what a filter is as opposed to a wah, I guess a wah is a more straight forward eq sweep? And aren't they all controlled either by envelope, LFO, or expression pedal? You could try a wah and leave the pedal up.

Same reason as the Moog idea - too much space, too little cost/performance benefit.

Bongomania answers this above. Resonance is a boost near the cuttof frequency of the filter.

You want a low pass filter.

You should check out some Bill Laswell records. He uses one on his bass with the sensitivity knob rolled back to get a dub tone.
