low pass filter or wah

so lately ive been itching for a sort of filter/phaser. if youve heard the songs like uprising or city of delusion by muse, their bassist uses a low pass filter of some sort. ive been in need of one that works on a toggle as opposed to a manual foot pedal...for a reasonable price.

Do you mean a filter that sweeps automatically? If you want it to sweep based on your playing dynamics, you'll want an envelope filter, if you want it to sweep to a predetermined tempo, you'll need a pedal with some sort of LFO and tap tempo (or MIDI clock input).

If you want a low-pass that is just static/non-moving, then you can either set a wah in one position (though wahs are usually bandpass filters, there are some that can be used as low-pass) or you can get a static filter like an Iron Ether Xerograph or a few others that can have the envelope turned off...most wahs or other filters have bypass switches though, so you will always be able to turn it on/off via a footswitch.

thanks this actually helped a lot. just wanna mention that i have a digitech envelope filter synth-wah, it sweeps but when i need a sweep the particular setting i use doesnt do an auto sweep. i havent used one, but a moog low-pass filter is somthing i keep looking for, or something that works like that.
