m80 color switch adds hiss?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got this pedal and am putting it through its paces. I'm impressed so far.

The choice of the color switch being engaged at all times seems odd to me for the distortion channel.

On the clean channel I was surprised how much hiss the color switch introduced. Anyone else noticed this? Perhaps if your not using a tweeter or a high-frequency PA it isn't noticeable. But it certainly is with headphones coming out of a mixer. Maybe I'll use this occasionally for slap stuff.

Here's what impresses me about the unit
-Price
-Noise in bypass VERY low
-Headroom seems fine (couldn't get it to clip for normal playing levels)
-Hum non-existent
-noise gate actually worked pretty well
-range of distortion is HUGE
-size and ruggedness

Back when I had one of those, I think I remember the color switch being a little less noisy. I didn't use it though, as it didn't help the bass sit well in a live situation.

The color switch of mine doesn't add noticeable hiss. I just tested with a pair of headphones.

I just tried it again. It really depends on the bass. With an active bass that has hiss to begin with, it seems to move the energy such that it is louder. With a passive bass or nothing connected I notice a *very* small change.
