I'd imagine they'd be different...

The Maestro Brassmaster is the only fair Maestro pedal to rank against the B:Assmaster.

Still... looking forward to your comparison!

How do you find Fuzz Tone (with bass of course) and how does it compare to B:Assmaster?

Cheers, Kris

The Maestro FZ-1 is a classic low-end sucker. It is a great tumbling rocks over-the-top fuzz sound but there is significant low end loss up and down the dials. Might work well with a blend, but the Malekko will sound better and is blendable by design (in addition to being MUCH more bass-friendly).

The heavy distortion sound of the Silicon Assmaster (pretty much the Brassmaster sound, as several have attested here) IS in the general neigborhood of the FZ-1 tone, though I don't think the circuits are similar at all.

I just did a quick search on the FZ-1. There were a few variations, with the FZ-1S being the more complicated circuit. It should sound different from a Brassmaster. Thankfully Maestro includes the schematic inside the pedal so now I have another fuzz pedal to clone.

I bet it will sound great, especially if you use a blend when using bass.

As a point of reference for the FZ-1 fuzz sound, Keith Richards used one on "Satisfaction"

anybody got bass clips or a recording?

Like many, I'm in search for the fuzz. I haven't found it yet. The Maestro FZ-1S has a different design compared to the other fuzzes out there. So maybe there's something in that circuit, some trick the designer used, that could be altered or used in a new design for an "ultimate" fuzz pedal.

I think he played through the FZ-1B, which is a simpler design from the FZ-1S. The 1S is has the 1B as the core and then beefs it up significantly. Based on schematics alone, I'd say the 1B is more Fuzz Face like while the 1S is more in the Univox Super Fuzz territory.

If I'm not mistaken, the Maestro Fuzz-tone is the fuzz of choice for Tim Bogert.

I'm going to order silicon B:Assmaster these week at last. Fuzz Tone is another story. I've found one locally for sale, so I'm gassing a little bit. The most important is of course wheather bass and Fuzz Tone like each other.

I've found this clip (dude is playing Soundgarden):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2JxbSScXc4

There is a fuzz1/fuzz2 switch. First one is more gentle, second is more nasal.

I just thought I'd pop in here and say I have a recording of Tim Bogert using his fuzz on a more recent track, the Maestro if that's what it is. It's definitely a great sound, but there's not a whole lot of bottom to it. But I'm planning on having a Maestro FZ-1S built for me soon.

Nothing. I just want a Fuzz Tone, not a Brassmaster. They're very different circuits.
