Making a Black Big Muff True-bypass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I'm really trying to get into the True-bypass thing and I really would like to know how to do it. I'd like someone to give me a detailed how-to guide on how to do it (Preferably with the switch already in it)

It's an EHX Black Russian Big Muff, if that helps at all.

Also, does anyone know if these are true bypass or not?

DigiTech Bass Synth Wah
Ibanez PD-7 Bass Overdrive
DigiTech Bass Multi-Voice Chorus
Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor.

EDIT::// Here's some pictures of the inside I took, if it helps.

None of those are true bypass. There are lots of how-to guides on www.diystompboxes.com so check there.

I figured the Ibanez wasn't. The Boss isn't? I thought all Bosses were TB.

Oh well. Thank you, I'll check that out. any other sources I should look at? I was told to look at a guide someone wrote in .pdf about Muffs, but it didn't help at all. It just helped me establish it wasn't true bypass and I could do it with the original switch!

No, all boss pedals use a buffer, which is not nessicarily a bad thing if you always have them on like I assume you would have the NS-2. As for making the BM TBP unless you are pretty handy with a soldering iron I would get somebody who knows what they are doing to sort it out.

I'm good with a soldering iron, but I can get my uncle who usually knows this kind of thing to help me too...

But I just need to know how to do it.

TBH I'm not too familiar with the switch but I'm not really sure how you could use the current to make the pedal TBP. Normally a 3PDT switch is needed IIRC.

I've heard you can do it with a DPDT, but I can't find any 3PDT's at the local radio shack, they didn't have any DPDT's either.

I took some pictures of the inside, even this one, where I labeled in the switch what looked like the wire went to. There's others than what's labelled, but I can't tell what they go to or what they do. (I'm not an electronics expert, but if I'm told exactly what to do I can do it.)

The 3PDT is only needed if you also want it to control an on/off LED. If you don't need it to switch an LED on/off, a 2PDT is fine.

The pic there is of a 3PDT.

Follow this wiring diagram: http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/...bmp_wiring.pdf

Use a multimeter to check continuity of the wires from the switch and jacks to the board.

When I run my P-bass through my board, it feels like I get a slight mid-range drop where when I play straight in, it's still there.

Is this a symptom of tone-suck? That's what I was thinking, but now I'm not sure.
