Making a YouTube Vid - Do I need a Looper?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been wanting to make some YouTube videos for a while now to A/B certain pedals. For example, there's lots of chatter about the difference of a Rat with or without the LM308 chip. I figured a YouTube video A/B-ing them would be beneficial.

I'm wondering if I need a Loop Station like the Boss RC-2? That way I could lay down a "track" and run it through each pedal. I figured that would be the "cleanest" way to compare pedals.

Or would that be overkill? Would it be just as simple to play each track "live" on my bass when recording? I'm just a bit leery of laying down the cash for an RC-2 for a couple of videos.

Is there another option of which I'm not aware?

All opinions welcomed.

Why not just a simple 2 loop true bypass loop? Then you can switch one off then the other on.

I'd never 'invest' that amount of money for a few cheers from some meaningless usernames on the interwebs.
Not that I wouldn't do gear reviews and stuff, but they would be 'as is'.

On the other hand, I have a RC-2 and I love it as a practice tool.

I would think it wasn't worthwhile for what you are hoping to show. The RC-2 is bringing more confusion into the picture. I actually found the sound quality on the one I had to be pretty low.

Was it unreasonably low, like mp3 low? I'm wondering if you got a bad one, because I find the difference from what I play to the recorded quality to be negligible on mine. Maybe a little compression at worst.

Why get a dedicated looper if you wouldn't use it other than in the videos? There are several delay pedals out there that would do what you need, and be useful in other situations. Even the digitech digidelay can do a simple loop, and you can find those used for $50 or so if you keep your eyes open.

When I do a comparison I just run one on left channel and the other on right.
Since most bass effects are mono it is easy to compare results by panning.
