Malekko B:Assmaster - Germanium vs. Silicon

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anybody here had a chance to try both? I do believe I am going to pick one of these up, but I'm going to have to buy before I try. Malekko's website isn't exactly comprehensive when it comes to soundclips (some are recorded direct, others with a mic'ed up cab, which doesn't allow for easy comparison).

If any of you guys have had a chance to try both, I'd really like to hear your impressions.

I have not tried them but as far as I can tell the germanium is a little subtler and the silicon is a little nastier. I don't think there is a big difference though. I am getting the germanium because I like my effects subtler, especially fuzz on bass.

I'm gonna say go with the Assmaster just based on the name.

I have both and they're actually different enough to justify having both. The Germanium is more subtle, with considerably less gain and a more pronounced octave to it. The sound is more pronounced in the mids. If you want a more "vintage sounding" fuzz, then this is it.

The Silicon is a monstrous, horrible (in a good way) beast with deadly amounts of gain. This one has more of an over-the-top industrial style gain! If you want your fuzz tone to slay the first ten rows, then this is perfect!

I love both of them and love the individualistic character of each one. Josh is a friggin' genius (and one helluva nice guy)!
