I am looking for a delay, and have narrowed it down to these two. Ideally I was looking for an analog pedal, but the Echobox seems to tick the boxes. I am after something that can do self osscilation, and be downright dirty. The modulation on the Subdecay is intriguing, as I like the idea of replicating tape subtlies. Anyone tried both? At this point I am leaning towards the Malekko, as I think it will actually fit on my board, and the expression pedal option is a nice bonus. That being said, I will make room for the Subdecay if needs be. Bear in mind I have no way of trialling them, so I am relying on your knowledge in regards this bloody expensive buy... |

I love it and while I've not tried the Malekko, the Subdecay was just so awesome I had the proto and I loved it and I got the production model and was amazed at how they had managed to improve upon it, the modulation is fantastic and you can dial the delay out to get chorus and proper warbly pitch vibrato if you need to.
I found the voicing of the repeats to be perfect for bass, I've had a lot of delays and nothing really grabbed me before, when I'm playing with my big board I pretty much leave the Echobox on all the time, and adjust the time for light reverb to washy ambience.
But either pedal is a winner really but personally I can't see anything improving on what I get out of the Echobox.
Hope this helps
Also if your in the Manchester area ever feel free to come try it out.

I think I need some more feedback on the Malekko, as there has been a fair bit written about the Subdecay here, but not much for the Malekko. I will be using it mostly for extreme/noise/ambient purposes, as all my tempo set 'musical' delays run from my GT6-B.
No plans to visit Manchester, but thanks for the offer! |
