Man in the Mirror bass tone?

Sign in to disble this ad
Last minute MJ cover request came in last night for shows this weekend.

At about 1:09 in this video, the bass kicks in with a synthy thing. Maybe its a keyboard in the studio, but I don't really know.

I don't know too much about effects, so sorry if this has been asked before. Anyone have a guess as to what the bassist is using to get that tone? Sorry for being clueless.

Sounds like an analog synth to me. Have no idea what kind, but I'm positive it's not a bass.

It's definitely a keyboard part, but you could get close to that tone with the Chunk Systems Octavius Squeezer. I forget which preset (I sold mine) but one of the presets has a similar vibe going on.

urm maybe try a fretless bass, an octaver and tonnes of compression to get you in the ballpark

I think it is a keyboard.

The "Earth Song" has a similar bass sound but it is a bass with an octaver (I think a Boss OC-2).

I would use an Octaver + Phaser + EQ it should be close enough.
