Markbass Compressore or Maxon CP-9 Pro+ ? Advice please!

I tried the Markbass Compressore yesterday in the shop, using a Presicion through a Markbass head+cab. It sounded great; smoothing out all frequencies. I think I'd need to get used to it though! Having never played through a compressor live, I'm used to the bass popping out when I want it to, punching through. The compressor seemed to restrict this, almost sucking the life out of my playing! I guess I didn't get the chance to turn it up to a gig volume though.
Anyway I'd still like to buy a compressor pedal, and looking at Bongomania's exstensive review site, only the MB and Maxon CP9 Pro+ stood out for me. Has anyone had experience with both, and could describe any differences? They're both in the same price range, all the reviews I've seen rave about the Maxon's transparency and pure power, though it lacks the attack/release control of the MB. Would the Maxon's set attack/release be sufficient for bass, or is it handy to have control over those parameters?
It's hard to find a Maxon CP9 to try out, though I'm inclined to go with it based on it's price, spec and strong reviews. I'm not really after huge, sucky compression; just a little to beef up and even out the sound. Any thoughts?

Here's my thoughts, ...having more control is always better, but having little to no expirience with using compression, it might be better to have less control. That way, there's less to interfere with your playing. Both are solid performers, but maybe you should explain *why* you want to use compression. Is there a specific problem you want to solve?

Well nothing major, just a more agressive 'punch' - attack not too sharp, with a fairly quick release. This, rather than a quick attack and slow release. I found the MarkBass to be more of the latter, though I didn't explore it for long enough. I'd imagine the MB could prob produce a sound I'm after, but the reviews of the Maxon seem to portray the sound I'm looking for!

Please check my FAQ for more of an explanation of how compressors work, and what to expect from them. Especially read the "killed my tone" article.

That said, the MB is super smooth-acting, and you may want something more crisp. That calls for a VCA-based comp like the Maxon.
