MarkBass Compressore on Voodoo Lab PP2+

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm building my pedal board and Pedal Power 2+ is my best buying choice, but I'm concern about powering my future MarkBass Compressore pedal. I'm aware of the 5 and 6 outputs on the PP2+ that provides 14.5 / 12V - 50mA / 200mA+, but I'm not quite sure what that means. Does mA+ means that it will serve enough current that is needed for given pedal? Can I plug MarkBass Compressore to this outputs? I'm waiting for the response from Voodoo Lab, but maybe someone can tell me about this. I read review of the MarkBass Compressore pedal from Bongomania, and he said that I need at least 500 mA of current. In Compressore manual says 12VDC (1700 mA) for the external power supply connection, so I'm a little confused.

Thanks for the response

The PPII cannot power the Compressore. The "+" in "200+ mA" probably just means it may be able to go a little over 200 W, but not by much. 500 mA is the minimum necessary for the Compressore; the power supply it comes with is capable of providing 1700 mA, but the Comp doesn't actually draw that much. It's useful to have that much extra current available in case you have two or three Markbass pedals--you can use a Y splitter or daisy chain to power all three off one wall wart.

Thanks, Bongomania! You are very helpful!

Then I'll need extra power for Compressore , other pedals will be on PP2+ ...

I will get mine from official Mark Bass dealer here in Split, Croatia ... first I'll take MiniCmd 151p...it's so delicious and so light = 18kg = 40 pounds ! Sounds like 400 pounds! I'm in love with it!

Could you run a a VT pedal and a Pitchblack tuner off the Markbass' power supply?

Maybe, but I wouldn't risk it without talking to the manufacturers. Those two run on 9V, the MB supply is 12V. Some pedals can take higher voltage supplies, but some others would get fried.

Ah of course. Thanks Bongo.

Hmmm... I just noticed that the Compressore that I'm looking to buy doesn't have a Gain knob...

???? I don't think one was ever sold without a gain knob. If you're looking at a web retailer's site, MB did send out promo photos that look very different from the actual product.

Yeah I'm looking at a web retailers site. I'll just make sure that it has a Gain knob. Cheers

Has a gain knob

Purchased it. Fiddling around with it now. A huge upgrade from the DOD Milkbox I had before!

I hate to bring up this topic from the dead again, but I'm looking into a similar setup. The PP2+ has an aux. AC plug on it's front; can the wall wart draw enough power from that? That seems like a simple solution people might forget.

Yes, that's fine. You'll want to buy a very short IEC extension cord to go from that outlet to the wall wart, as plugging the wart straight in could make packing/moving the pedalboard awkward.
