I've been curious to try it, but I haven't seen any comments one way or the other about it yet.

i find mine quite useable on bass.
works well, seems reasonably transparent, and all for not a lot of cash!

OK I just got one of these today. I haven't had time to really work with it all that much, but so far IT SUCKS. It rolls off so much of the lows that I'm surprised even guitarists would use it. It's maybe good for a piccolo player, and I don't mean piccolo bass! Also the output level is significantly lower than unity even with the level knob maxed. I replaced the input cap with a .47uF, and there was no improvement in the lows, so the rolloff is somewhere else in the circuit, I don't know where yet.

Ignoring the lost lows and the low output level, the actual compression action and noise level are pretty decent. But unless I can figure out a simple mod for better low end, I will be writing up a negative review of this pedal. Oh well!

Cheers Bongo - I guess Marshall won't be sending a freebie to review in future! Good luck with TC Electronics!

Just to say that my experience with the ED1 is not the same as Bongomania's.

Mine has little or no effect on the tone outwith what you set the tone knob to i.e. an emphasis, and the output level is at unity at around the 9 o'clock mark, giving quite a large boost.

I use it almost constantly and am extremely pleased with it.

It's strange that we'd hear such different things. I wonder if mine came from the same Bizarro planet as the Punch Factory, Rocktron Big Crush, EHX Black Finger, and other comps that barely functioned for me yet that work perfectly for other people.

Bongo if it' any consolation I tried out an EHX Black Finger today and found it so insanely noisy that I couldn't even tell you anything else about it. I tried adjusting pre and post gain, compression, you name it. The noise was constant. I can only guess what made that finger black...

Blast from the past! For the record, it turned out that the pedal I had tested at that time was defective. I later bought a second one, and it did not have all those problems I mentioned.

Thank you. But does it work well with low frequencies or it is just a guitar pedal ?

It does lose a bit of the lows. My review: Marshall ED-1

Not "unusable", but probably disappointing.
