So just rumaging through Musicians Friend and found the Marshall Guv'nor.

People say that it cuts most of the bass, is this true?
Does it really achieve that Marshall Noise when plugged through a bass?

The Guv'nor is OK, but the advertising claims that it sounds "like a raging Marshall stack" are complete hooey. FWIW I found the original Guv'nor retained the low end pretty well at lower drive levels, but lost more lows the higher the drive was turned up. From what I've read, the current version is similar that way.

get the danelectro daddy-o overdrive. its pretty much the same deal and im guessing you can get it for way cheaper on ebay

i had the daddy-o as my first OD pedal... back when i played guitar

i agree with bongo that at low settings it kept low end better.. however for the price i would go with other OD boxes like the bad monkey.

now this is just my view on the govn since if i recall the only different between the two is one resistor or something..

Good idea about the Daddy'O... I have one I'm looking to sell because it's just sitting on a shelf right now.

I never tried the new Guv'nor, but I have the old Guv'nor. It's fantastic. No loss of low end, great distortion. I use it for just a bit of overdrive sound, but I've played it with the gain cranked and it sounds evil. Check for one on ebay.

So how can one achieve that Marshal growl? I have tried hooking up a boss bass overdrive with max level, no OD, max gain in front of my EHX Lil Big Muff but to no effect.
