Marshall Jh-1 Jackhammer!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, i recently picked up a Marshall Jackhammer (used), and I'd have to say, it's pretty good sounding. It preserves a lot of low end, and has a nice scooped sound to it. It also has ****loads of overdrive (good thing)! It has a lot of tone control; Contour, frequency, treble, bass, gain, and an O.D. & Distortion mode (Distortion mode kind of sucks, way too compressed).

So, has anyone ever tried one of these? If so, what are the settings that you like to use on it?

I also use a Marshall Guv'nor, and i can't decide which one i like more. So, if you have a guv'nor, post the settings you like for it, and (if you've tried both) whether you like the Jackhammer or Guv'nor better.

Post away!

I used to have a Jackhammer. I gave it to the guitarist of my band. Not because I didn't like it, I was just too lazy to set it right. I'd prefer the Guv, because if memory serves it doesn't have as many knobs, and sound better right out of the box. The Jackhammer is definitely great if you can commit the time, and don't psych yourself out once you get it how you THINK you want it.

Not tried one myself, but this old thread has some interesting stuff regarding the Jackhammer and it's ability to keep low end.

Might have to see if I can find a chap one on ebay.

I have a Jackhammer that I have used off and on for my bass over the last year. It is back on the board. This time I really took some time to get it where I got a sound that I really liked. Took a while though, definitely not plug and play.

I have one of these lying around somewhere. Nice range of sounds and a very usable EQ that retains the low end. Very noisy at high gain settings though. I guess that's fine as long as you turn it off when you're not using it.

What setting(s) did you find that work well?
