I'm not sure if this if more an amp or effect question..but here it goes:
Any ideas on how the bass is getting this sweet tone?
I think it's the same sound the whole song, for a quick example check out 0:28-0:55

I almost thought about adding that. Yes, definitely some compression going on. Probably a nice high end studio unit like an 1176 or a distressor.
