Question Maxon CP101 Compressor ? ? ?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've listened to a load of sample tracks on the compressor, and all were great, however, all were for guitar. I was wondering if this pedel is worth the cash or if i should go with Maxons higher end models, like the 9 series comp or the true tube comp they offer. all the reviews on the thing are amazing (other than one but the guy was using a mesa road king and they sound like trash in my opinion) so i would assume the maxon has a geart product. i've used the AD999 delay and the OD808 overdrive on my rig and both make all other pedals (of the same type) look like jokes (agin opinion), so i know maxon makes extreamly good quality items. so my questions are; has anyone used this comp on their bass rigs? If so, what was your opinion of it? And, if you know of another compressor that is better, even if it is a slight difference? thanks.

Check out Bongomania's compressor reviews

I tried the CP101 and thought it was a fine pedal, much better than the MXR Dynacomp or Supercomp. However, the CP9 Pro + is better still. It doesn't color your tone or loose any highs or lows, and it's very easy to use.

Thanks alot swift713, i kinda thought that the cp9 pro was gonna be a bit better. it's seems to have more options than the cp101, but it doesn't have a bunch of stuff i wont use or stuff that would color my tone in any way. im not looking for better tone, just compression, i do alot of tap stuff and it gets a but cloudy when im really haulin ass, lol. I'll look in to the MXR comps, they might have a better power to price than the cp101. thanks alot man.

I found the cp101 significantly better than the MXRs. If you can afford the CP9 pro then go for it.
