Ok I know its 12vac 1amp but I gave the american adaptor away and can't remember if it's centre/center positive or negative.

If you would have posted this four hours ago before I could have told you. But I shipped it off the lucky buyer and I don't remember anymore.

Its 12VAC, it doesnt have a polarity.
Looking at the schematic, the center pin ends up at internal positive DC in the power supply, the outside pin is 0V internally.
Any 12VAC adaptor will work fine, it just needs to be > 1A capacity
