messdrive hybrid+ or attack goat?

Sign in to disble this ad
i've been following these 2 fuzzes now and i am confused which one to take. i heard the clips and both like them. i won't be asking for any suggestions on which one to take because i know it depends on different tastes. i just wanted to hear the comments and feedbacks of those who owned these 2 pedals, they're experience about them live and on stage. it may sound strange, but it will help me to decide which one to get. i hope that makes sense! so please feel free to post anything you can say about these 2 pedals. all my thanks in advance!

Same here, but for me the question is Messdrive Hybrid+ / Attack Goat / Devi Ever Bass Fuzz / Supercollider / Pickle Pie B / El Grande Bass Fuzz. Currently leaning towards Supercollider. So many fuzzes, so little cash.

I love my Attack Goat, but haven't had a chance to gig with it yet.

I love the Hybrid. I still need some time to decide between it and the LBM though.

And then there's the El Grande...eh...too many fuzzes.

Personally id prefer to get the Attack Goat. I own neither, have tried neither, but the Goat just sounds a bit more wild and out there from the samples I've heard.

EDIT: forgot to mention that it looks cool and has an ever cooler name

Have you considered the Messdrive (as opposed to the Hybrid)? It sounds pretty massive. I have mine in the loop of my VFB. The notes decay with synth-like artifacts. It sounds especially cool when run after an octave pedal.

How about throw the MI audio Neo and GI fuzzes in the mix. I am considering the Neo.

YA RLY the Neo and the Attack Goat both sound very appealing to me too.

Just buy both and sell one on. You'll never know which one you should've got unless you buy both. But of course there's the risk that you'll want to keep both...

That's what I'm afraid of. I just pulled the trigger on a Supercollider and pretty soon someone will have to restrain me from getting the Pickle Pie B, Messdrive and Attack Goat 'just to try them out'.

And I see I've been sigged by Mr Pickles!

i own a messdrive, and it is WITHOUT A DOUBT the best fuzz i have ever owned. ive never used an attack goat, but i have used just about everything else on the market. i like electronix products so much that im considering buying a hybrid plus, even though i already own a regular messdrive.

not to mention how inexpencive their pedals are..only cheap in price though. definately not in quality.

I have both a messdrive hybrid+ and an attack goat (which was the OP's question... I have no idea why everyone feels free to litter their random non-related opinions into these things, but I digress). My feeling is that they are very different animals.

A brief description to me would be the hybrid+ is more capable of producing a variety of fuzz sounds from classic to modern with the ability to get very 'wall of fuzz'.

The attack goat is more of a one trick pony, but it does that trick very well. The fuzz sound is more trebly than many fuzzes I have used, and combined with the clean blend it is VERY sonically cutting. It can even do kind of a two instrument sound when blended correctly (on the correct parts).

My feeling would be if your looking for a Noise/Classic or Fool Around by yourself fuzz. The Hybrid+ is superior (because of it's flexibility). If you are in a modern rock/metal/lead bass situation the Goat will have a more recognizable voice.

Or I could be full of it...

When I get my messdrive+, I'll post a review of it.

in a live band setting, does both the distortion and blended clean tone cut through? This pedal seems like it may be an ideal companion to an overdriven amp.

Well, if your amp is 'overdriven' then the blended clean single will not be getting through to the audience... it will be overdriven at your amp. Additionally, the clean single is just that... clean. So whatever sound you normally get from your bass will be moving into your amp.

The output you get is going to be HIGHLY impacted by the backside of your rig. IE: DI vs Amp/Cab etc...

My personal assumption for best use of this pedal would be something like this (your mileage may vary)

Bass -> Goat -> Clean Amp -> Cab (w/blend-able Tweeters)
