P Bass + Hard Driven Ampeg ?

I can't say I can think of the tone of those bands, but that sounds a lot like what you want.

I have an SVT classic that would do the trick that I'm trying to sell if you live in the greater Seattle area!

cut some lows, boost mids, mainly high mids around 600-1k. And running hot into a tube amp helps.

DR high beams, pick, tons of high end, mildly pushed amp/distortion pedal.

Play with a pick? Most bassists in that genre most likely stick to a pick with an Ampeg setup. I would suggest getting a nice set of DR LoRiders, Elixers, or Curt Mangan strings and set it up with a low action. A very slight amount of fret buzz and "clicks" will give you more of a dirty tone that you're probably looking for.

yeah! loads of fret buz and, if you have got an effect loop mix on your amp, you should consider puttng a guitar OD , ts9 or anything really, then mx it n between about 10-25% depending on taste. just so the rattle plays lip service to the od.

=)

There was a blog that ABR (One of my favorite bands, by the way) put up when they were recording "Messengers" that detailed what they used for the bass tone. If I remember, it was an Ibanez SRX into a Tech21 BDDI set for mild drive into a Mesa/Boogie Big Block 750/8x10 rig. I wish I could remember what he was using the last time I saw them.

set the bass knob on the Bass Driver to about 2 o'clock, and the treble to about 11 o'clock. Set the drive to taste. and then give you amp a slight mid scoop, not a really, really sharp one (you're metalcore, not nu-metal. theres a difference.) Play with these and see what you find that sounds "right".

That's not very metal.
