MI Audio?

Anybody ever hear of MI Audio/MI effects? I didn't find anything in a forum search, though it's "mi", "audio" and "effects" are way too generic. It's an Australian boutique amp and effects company.

They must not be too well known because they've got a compressor which is not on ovnilab.com yet. Also a boost/buffer and a slew of OD, dist, fuzz.

Looks a little more guitar oriented. Not that it should technically make a difference.

They are actually fairly well-known and well-regarded, even here in the States. It's true though that two-letter names are not searchable with the regular search, and not easy even with the Google search.

Their compressor is mentioned on my "want to try" page.

Look at that, and it's right near the top of the page too! I just haven't seen any mention of them on TB, so I was curious. Maybe they're just not great for bass (as mentioned).

It seems like they have more and different controls then most pedals, like a knob to bias the transistors on one of the grit boxes.

they are popular for their guitar pedals - do they even have bass pedals?

i remember being really fond of the guitar crunch of the (appropriately named) Crunchbox

I play a little guitar as well and I recently sold a MI Audio OD pedal which I thought was as good or better than a Tube screamer.. the only reason I let it go is I have a Hermida Zen Drive ( used by Robbin Ford when he doesn't have his Dumble amp} to achieve those D-type tones. They are very well made and sound great as well! My guitarist was PO'ed I traded it to someone in a trade for a vintage Audio Guild (Magnatone type) tube amp.

Here's the search I used to find items on Talkbass for MI Audio:

http://www.google.com/search?client=...%22mi+audio%22

You can also change the site being searched (thegearpage.net is another good choice for concentrated discussion), or add the name of a particular item as well. Here's a search on The Gear Page for the MI Audio G.I. Fuzz, which I bought based on reviews. It's a treat on bass and guitar, and works well with active pickups:

http://www.google.com/search?rls=en&...22g.i.+fuzz%22

Good luck!

They've been around for quite some time.

Michael is a real thinker - check out his guitar amps like the REVELATION, and MEGALITH.
Simply amazing what he has done for such a small outfit, considering how small the aussie made scene is, (compared to the USA boutique builders) and considering he's taking on some massive competition from cheap imports from the USA, China etc.

I've had three of his pedal's.
GI FUZZ (silicon high gain)
Blue Boy Deluxe
Blue Boy Pro.

Let me say first - his pedals are EQ'd for guitar.
So bear that in mind when you dial up the bass knob, you'll be turning up low mids.... Anyway!
His sense of EQ is unlike a Leo Fender however, as Michael tends to like a more bassy tone.

The GI Fuzz is an awesome fuzz for velcro ripping, colon evacuating, silicon look at me look at me look at me.
But it does suffer an (admittedly) small amount of low end loss if you play down to B.
In a blender (with inversion switch) I found this an incredibly versatile fuzz.

The Blue Boy Pro is kind of in the same box - very good at what it does, but it does lose a small amount of lows. Many of you may not notice it tho. Fuzz switch was fun.
I traded it for the BBD.
Same basic tones as BBD but lacks some of the more bass friendly tones.

BBD is the ducks nuts.
Great OD. Supposedly a tweaked TS-like circuit, but I wouldn't know.
Can be tweaked for massive lows, light to heavy - even farty OD. Very versatile. Can sound a bit compressed at higher gain settings, but then - what drive pedal doesn't?
I really liked the BBD - great pedal.

The GI Fuzz I great sounding and will never get “lost in the mix”

I have a tube zone fs/ft in the classifieds. Its a really good pedal that I found works very well on bass.
