Well i know he does seem to use some fuzz in some songs.

Im not sure if it is Michael or not, but i think i have heard it.

Ok here you go. I dont know who made the video, but its the studio recording of the song.

I would say that's the fuzz from whatever amp he is using.

Dude wasn't even in the band at the time, according to the liner notes Troy played bass on that track. That one DVD the band released around the Lullabies time period (whoops, it came with the CD, duh) shows a lot of studio stuff though, might be helpful. The again I watched that once or twice and only remember a quick clip of Josh playing bass with a pretty thin/bad tone, which makes sense since the whole bass thing seems to have taken a pretty firm back seat since Nick left the band.

EDIT: I'm listening to Lullabies right now and perhaps that was unfair what I said, there are some pretty decent basslines here, particularly the tracks Troy played on (which makes sense since that dude is The Man), but I still think there was still quite a void in that band after Nick's departure. Blah blah blah.

Too much fun if you ask me. If he is still using what Nick used it's cranked ampegs at their finest. Maybe the V-4's still?

But an aggressive pick style bass with the tone rolled off into a cranked tube amp will get that tone.

But as far as I know, their are no other effects on bass in QOTSA songs.

This clip at approx. 4:18 shows a brief shot of the board. No Wah, but the volume pedal and Rat are on it as far as I can tell.
