Micro Pog low end

Sign in to disble this ad
I don't notice this too much in my oldies band where we're low volume, but does anyone besides me think the Micro Pog cuts off some low end response on the regular bass note when you run it an octave up? I hear the notes, but that midbass I like so much seems to disappear. Is it just me or does anyone else notice it? I like the tracking of the Micro Pog much better, but I think I like the Whammy Pedal's low end better.

BTW, my settings are normal bass on full, upper octave to 3:30, sub octave off.

I notice this as well, but inside a mix nobody outside of other bassists can really tell.

I just got my Micro POG, so I haven't noticed yet. I love the tracking though, and it is great to add a touch of both low an high octave, sounds pretty cool. My EBS sounds much fatter though, but then I have a reason to keep both.

How does the EBS track compared to the micro pog? I love that 3 octave sound too. I keep the upper octave around noon though because it sounds a little fake to me so I prefer it to be subtle. I keep the lower octave around 1:00 so it doesn't get too muddy on the lower notes, of course I play a 5 string.

I've been thinking about buying an octave pedal too. I'm really only interested in the octave down though. Whats yalls take on the EBS vs the Micro Pog? Does the Micro Pog only cut off low end on when using the octave up? I've also been thinking about the MXR 288, have any of yall tried that?

I use the micro POG when I practice a home through my PA and sometimes on headphones and I do notice a thinning out of the low end when the effect is turned up high. It's kind of subtle, though, and I don't think I'd be able to tell if I was using it in a band setting.

Still, this is the only effect I use and I absolutely love the unit.

I don't know, man. I definitely noticed it again tonight. I still used it because it's so nasty sounding when you run it through a VT pedal but it thins out the midbass enough to where it bugs me a little now. Gotta have my midbass for that Cliff Williams tone (of course, you may ask why I'm using an octaver and trying to get Cliff tone in the first place )

Well, I do like it a lot otherwise. And it's a lot lighter than the Whammy Pedal. Decisions...

its really how the pedal is voiced. hence the perception of loss of low end.
nice enough imho

I've noticed it for a while, I just cracked the sub octave a little further to make up for it. I believe it is a perceived eq readjustment, as i've run the micropog as just octave up with a clean blend (using an LS2) and still noticed the same thing

The EBS tracks well, but it is analog and the tracking is not on the same level as the Micro POG. From 5th fret A string D down there is an occasional glitch that annoys me a bit, but when I listen to recordings it isn't an issue really. The EBS sounds real fat and big. I run an EBS Multicomp in front of it, which seems to improve tracking.

Are you noticing the low end loss just when your VT is on or all the time?

Also, do you notice it if you put normal bass on full at nix everything else?

I think it's a perspective thing. At a certain point the upper octave takes over, because our ears are more sensitive to it's frequency range, and overwhelms the clean signal.

I notice it more with the VT since I only use it for OD, but I notice it clean as well, but really only at higher volumes like the insane volume I played at last night

Haven't tried it with only the clean by itself, but I think you guys may be onto something. Next gig I'll turn down the upper octave and see if that helps.
