Moog Bass Murf question - expression pedal

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi

I have a Bass Murf on its way to me. I jsut have a quick question, will the M-Audio EX-P expression pedal work with the Moog? I have a spare one and wanted to know whether anyone had tried them together.

I know that most M-Audios have a 10K pot and the Moog expression pedal has a 50K pot...
Yes, it will work, but it will work poorly. The sweep will be way off...

Ah cool, I will give it a try, there is a sensitivity adjustment, but ti looks like I might need a moog pedal or two.

I've found that the Moog pedals work best with my MURF. That said, I do use a cheap-o Bespeco to control my MURF's 'mix'. It works well, but the Moog one I have is better- I use it to control the 'envelope'.

Will the sweep actually be way off with a different pot value? If the TRS parts of the jacks plug are hooked straight up to the +ve, wiper and ground on the pot so that you could vary the output between 0 and maximum voltage, wouldn't any pot value work? I guess it would depend on the design of the circuit.

The EP2 is ok, but I found when I switched to the MP201 that I had been missing about 25% of the sweep range with the EP2. It may just have been that the string in the EP2 had stretched over time (likely). They are solid though, and designed to work with moog gear.

Also it might be down to the fact that the EP2 is passive expression pedal, which alters voltage supplied by the host pedal, while the MP201 is a CV Controller which supplies it's own voltage, which may be slightly higher or lower than the one coming from the Moogerfooger.

That's how I understand it & how my two exp pedals seem to work. I get a full "0-10" value on the MURF from my Moog EP-1, while the Bespeco (can't recall the pot value, but I know it's different) ranges more like "2-8".

And, I feel tempted to share a pic of my MURFboard that I just completed! (I just like typing "MURFboard")

EP-1 controls the ENVELOPE, the Bespeco the MIX and the FS-5U is for tap tempo...
