Moog MF-107 Freqbox alternatives?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello fellow oddballs.

As per thread title.

Alternatives to the Freqbox, is there anything out there that does similar things but sounds different, I just can't stand any of the samples I heard of the thing although I love the idea of what it actually does........

I have though about that one, I have a 88-super oscillo fuzz so I am a LAL fan. My only worry about the cyber psychic is controllability..

My other alternative is midi control over a real synth and I even got a Roland midi bass pickup cheap off ebay but right now I find the latency unusable to achieve what I'm after. I'm even giving ideas to things like the Yamaha EZ-AG and a Dave Smith Mopho.........

Yes I plan on getting some kind of ring modulator, but am leaning to the moog do to my other moogs........... What edge would the EHX have over the moog or the studio FX ect?

Well, the Freqbox and Frequency analyzer don't really have anything in common as far as I can tell, but the Moog Ringmod sounds much better than the EHX FA in my opinion and limited experience with the EHX (i have the freqbox and ringmod). Also, CV control over the moog makes it much more usable in a musical fashion(or noise even for that matter), imo.

Hmm, that's a great alternative to the Freqbox. Fuzz can't match the fatness of the Freqbox, but my use with a bass guitar I get diminishing returns with the Freqbox vs my gated fuzz's after being filtered and whatnot, and especially in a live setting.. Band practice has been at my place for the last few months and we're not gigging yet, so my boards are used for bass guitar synth as well and synthesis in general at home but I plan on streamlining to bass guitar synth only as soon as I have to start transporting them again, and I think the Freqbox will be one of a couple that go. The Orbit looks like a nice alternative with its envelope and other capabilities that go beyond gated fuzz- If I ever see an Orbit pop up I'll have to try one out.

Well now! now we are talking! It's smaller, it's cheaper, and I like the sounds in the demos! I'd love to see it with total CV control but even without it the thing sounds cool, thanks, I will be looking at this.
