Moog Slim Phatty

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all

For you Moog fans....

Moog just announced this - the slim phatty.

It's a rack mount version of the Little Phatty synth!

My phatty is going to be for sale very shortly. As a bass player, I don't have room on stage for it, but the rackmount will sit on my amp and I can trigger notes with sequencer, floor pedals, or MP-201.

Check out the demo video:

Also Czech out the new I phone app comes out Monday!

I'm a little bit short in the pockets, but it looks very cool, even if well beyond my paygrade to figure out.

That is beautiful. I've never owned a Moog synth despite years of yearning, because money has always gone on bass guitar / double bass gear, but this might be the one that I have to buy.

Nah I have no interest in the Taurus or the silly organ-friendly box it lives in, the rack-mount Phatty is much more my kind of synth.

I have a Phatty too... but it's just not a phat as the silly organ-friendly box. Nor as expensive.

I don't know much about modular synths- I'm guessing the dimensions for the Slim are geared towards a different type of rack they use?

I think it will probably go in a 19" rack using some optional rack ears

Definitely purchasing that app for my ipod and trying to run my bass through it with my irig adapter.

I'd guess rack ears. Kinda more of a desktop (amp top) form factor now. It had be be made smaller than little phatty though, it's way longer.

The Taurus is ridic - my brother owns one. To be honest I think there's not alot of difference between them - there are some kickass Taurus patches out there for LP.

Aside of the cost, I just can't afford the real estate, so I'm looking forward to slim phatty. Generally I use LP for accompaniment, a drone or arpeggiated progression. I am interested though in seeing what I can do via midi pickup with my bass!

Yeah- it's definitely made to be played with your hands.

It would be cool if they put out a "standard" rackmount unit- one that's meant to be fully controlled with MIDI. They could probably fit the whole thing into a 1u or 2u space. As it is, it's still more of an all-in-one synth unit.

Don't wanna be a broken record, but I have owned a Little Phatty, and for half the cost of a Moog, the Dave Smith MoPho is a great choice- tons of great bass patches, every bit as "phat" as the Moog. Different, for sure, but killer synth.

I've definitely been keeping my eyes on the Mopho. Those bass sounds are immense!

With the Slim Phatty would you be able to trigger it with a bass accompanied by a MP-201 or would you need a MIDI pickup?

Unfortunately, as is with any analog keyboard synth, the only part that works with a bass plugged in is the filters. The slim Phatty would need some sort of manual trigger, be it a keyboard, or some other MIDI device, (maybe a MIDI pick-up, idk).
