More bass out of my Fuzz Probe?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I own and love my Fuzz Probe. But a big problem for me is how much bass it sucks out of my sound (understandable as it is a guitar pedal and I hear they tend to do that).

So the question I have for you all, my very competent and knowledgeable bass wielding brothers and sisters, is this: is it possible to get more bass out of the Fuzz Probe?

Perhaps some sort of booster before or after it, perhaps a mod? I enjoy it so, but I'd love it even more if it left my bottom end alone.

Helps!

A booster will not help; neither will an EQ. Zach doesn't provide schematics, so I don't know what sort of fuzz circuit is in there, in order to suggest a mod. One common mod worth trying (though it is not always the right answer) is just to increase the value of the input cap. A rough rule of thumb is to increase the value by a factor of ten- so a .022 uF cap gets replaced by a .22 uF, etc. Again though, for some circuits there are better ways of going about this. You may get more info by searching on the Fuzz Probe over on diystompboxes, as I know various people there have reverse-engineered some Zvex pedals.

The easiest solution is to use a blender loop such as the Barge VFB or the Xotic X-Blender.

I didn't know someone on here had a Fuzz Probe. IS there any chance you could record some clips for us, I really want one of these you see.

Try replacing the 10u input electrolytic cap with 100u.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah, I figured it would have to do with a cap somewhere. I'll look into it and do more research to see if I'm willing to risk it (or get somebody with a steadier hand to do it for me!).

As for sound clips, Funky. I'll try to see if I can make a few in the next couple of days.

Thanks again!
